Today we look at some of the results of the US elections. It was no referendum on President Obama or the Democrats, but there was a bit of a one against extremists who were trying to purge the Republican Party of moderates. We also take a look at the referenda in Maine, along with the implications of the much more positive results from Kalamazoo, Michigan and Washington state. We also talk about some of the bigger issues and trends, and that even the loss in Maine is as dire as it may seem to some—though Arthur thinks there are some threats arising from it.

After Jason’s special days, we have some final thoughts on the elevation of Sonia Sotomayor to the US Supreme Court, which is why this episode starts with the audioclip. From there it’s on to the main topic, the debate over healthcare reform, and we have another audio clip. To wrap up, Arthur has another silly story from the conservative fringe. After a couple phone messages, we’re done. Can you guess what saved our phone number for another two weeks beyond what the phone messages gave us?

Episode 4 continues our regular schedule of podcasting every other week (the next episode will be the week of April 20). After special news, we talk about President Obama’s trip to Europe. That leads to a wide-ranging discussion of international relations before we move on to talk about the auto industry. That leads to a concrete example of why it’s so important to the world that the US fixes its economy and gets credit flowing again. Comments on a variety of topics round out this episode.
