Today we wrap up the year and the decade. We talk about some big issues, some little ones, and we kid around. Pretty much the sort of thing we’ve done all year, in other words!
Thanks for listening this year—have a great New Year!!

There seems to be a common theme of some folks evoking the budget crisis as a reason for doing nothing else. Some GOP Senator in NYS said the Senate shouldn’t work on gay marriage because of the budget crisis. Ah-nold in CA complained about some legislation because the state’s in a budget crisis.
More funding for TSA may be possible, but it’ll be impossible to stop all the leaks. One of the networks (ABC or NBC) noted that that there is a dearth of bomb-sniffing dogs because of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Also, it was noted, some people are afraid of dogs (including my daughter).
You’re right about the potential for technology making people stupid. GPS does it all the time: http://www.lasvegasnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=11756070
I recommend in general, fivethirtyeight.com for political analysis. This is about the 2010 (that’s TWENTY-TEN!) Senate race. http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/12/senate-rankings-decemeber-2009-edition.html
Happy New Year!
Apropos of gay marriage: from the Wall Street Journal, an interesting read. Washington, Gay Marriage and the Catholic Church D.C.’s same-sex marriage law has put the archdiocese in a bind. My single favorite line: “But the archdiocese isn’t willing to play hardball with the city.”
